Raziuddin Khan – A Pioneer of Science Journalism in Pakistan

Mr. Khan played a foundational role in establishing science journalism in Pakistan. In February 1980, he launched the widely respected magazine Science Digest, which remained in continuous publication for 21 years despite limited resources and institutional support. Earlier, he had served as editor of “Science Ki Duniya,” a weekly science page in Daily Jang that quickly gained national attention and helped popularize science among general readers. While working at Daily Jang in Karachi, he also interviewed Nobel Laureate physicist Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam.

Under his editorship, Science Digest introduced forward-thinking themes such as quantum computing, space exploration, robotics, genetics, and other emerging technologies — well ahead of their time in local discourse. A defining feature of the magazine was its exclusive interviews with leading figures in science, including Dr. Raziuddin Siddiqui student of (Albert Einstein), Dr. Salimuzzaman Siddiqui, Dr. Bukhari (Right hand of Dr. James Watson) , and Prince Sultan bin Salman, the first Muslim astronaut.

Khan’s vision extended beyond publication. He viewed scientific capacity-building as essential for the long-term progress of Pakistan and the Muslim world, dedicating his career to nurturing public understanding of science and inspiring future generations of scientific thinkers and writers.
